If you love gadgets and the latest high tech products then the Sony SmartWatchmight just be for you. An idea that started with the detective Dick Tracy Is now a reality more than fifty years later. After many industry attempts Sony finally got it right with a watch that is useful, functional, and NOT big gaudy, or clunky.
I do love gadgets, and I love my Android smart phone, it's an extension of me and a micro computer in my pocket. There are a few problems with relying on your phone all the time, one being very few people wear an actual watch anymore and when need to know the time, it's not as simple as looking at your wrist anymore but becomes quite the task fumbling in your purse or pocket.
TheSony Android Smartwatch is an extension of your phone and syncs via Bluetooth to connect with your email, texts, and several other applications. I have turned off almost all my notifications with the exception of the people I really want to stay connected with on a daily basis.
Who Is Using Smartwatches?
The first time I saw a Smart Watch I thought, who is the world would strap a mini computer to their wrist and read a tiny screen, I mean really? Isn't that why our Smart Phones are perfect. Then I got to looking around and paying attention and came up with this list of who could really use a Smart Watch. You see I have to justify any purchase.
Many tech companies are getting into the Smartwatch market and some watches are more specialized than others.
- Commuters: Using your iPhone, or Android on a train or subway is just asking it to get stolen, this allows you to check your email with just a glance and keep your phone safely tucked into your pocket, purse, or bag. Checking your messages while walking from the train, or waiting on the corner is easier and safer, than pulling out your phone.
- Joggers & Fitness: There are watches and apps that can track your heart rate and your distance, control your music, take a phone call, track your GPS location (ideal for hikers), and many other features.
- Business Warriors: Admit is there are some of you who are business junkies, it is critical to stay connected to email, tweets, and text messages. You also realize most of those "pushed" notifications are junk, but it takes time, to fish your phone out of your pocket, slide/tap/swipe to find out you just need to delete the text. It now takes less than 2 seconds.
No, the Sony Smart Watch doesn't answer phone calls, but you can see who is calling and decide if it's worth the hassle pulling out your phone. No more annoying ring tones all day. Keep it on silent stealth mode.
Different Brands of Smart Watches
Sony isn't the only company who makes a Smart watch, others such as Samsung and and Pebble have entered this digital gadget arena. Some are better than others.
Recently Apple announced their entry into the Smart Watch movement with an introduction of their iWatch in 2015. In my opinion they are a little bit behind. It could be possible they have watched Sony and Samsung and realize this is a market they could capitalize on with their fan base.
I'm not an Apple fan, so I'll stick to the Android operating system.

It seems trends come and go and the trend of checking your phone for the time will be a thing of the past.
When you think about it wearing a watch is so much more convenient, just glance at your wrist. I don't know how many times someone has asked me the time and I'll say "Hold on let me get my phone" , then they stumble with looking for their phone. What a hassle.
Before you buy a Smart Watch do your research, think about how, why, and when you would use it and how the watch would save you time, and enhance your life. But it you just like gadgets, get one and try it out. I haven't met a gadget I didn't like.

Sports Coaches: stopwatch feature is very precise, use only one electronic gadget.
Teachers: create quick notes and reminders on the fly
Busy Moms: Keep shopping lists close by with the notes feature
College Students: keep track of a busy calendar, with test notifications and assignment due dates
Bloggers: add topics to a calendar right at your fingertips and use the timer and alarm other time management strategies (I need this one)
