What Does a Salad Spinner Do, and Why Do I Need One?
I love eating a nice fresh salad from the garden, but washing and drying the lettuce leaves are a royal pain in the neck, that's why a Salad Spinner is such an ingenious idea. Works very much like the spin cycle on a washing machine.
It's simple science really, put your washed lettuce and greens in the inner basket which spins around forcing the water into the outer bowl by centrifugal force. But this design of the OXO Good Grips Green Salad Spinner has gone through many designs including a crank handle, levers, and a pull cord.
The pump action spinner not only works the best but it's fun! You might even get your kids to help in the kitchen.
Do I Really Need ANOTHER Kitchen Gadget?
Yes, I have to ask myself the same question. I have a cabinet full of Pampered Chef, State Fair Salsa Maker, mixers, George Foreman, and a dehydrator (plus other random "stuff"). The Salad Spinner will take up valuable real estate in my cabinet. But, if I use it on a regular basis then it will sit on my kitchen counter. Then I will need to put the dehydrator away.
But a salad spinner is my key to eating healthy this summer, to eating natural and maybe it will even help me lose weight. I'm really pushing it here ain't I?
I have committed to my garden, and am going to plant a row every week for 3-4 weeks so I can have fresh lettuce all throughout the summer. Last year I washed and dried the lettuce with paper towels, what a hassle. So this year I AM going to buy a Salad Spinner. That is if my kids don't get me one for Mothers Day.
