An Inspirational Horse Movie
The Little Horse That Could
The horse Seabiscuit wasn't just a race horse, he was a symbol of a struggling nation and a hope that any ordinary person could become great. I loved horses growing up and had a collection of Breyer horses, part of that collection was famous race horses like Secretariat, Ruffian, and Seabiscuit.
My Mother grew up in the dust bowl era in Oklahoma and I remember my Mother telling me stories about Seabiscuit races. The only electronic form of entertainment in the 1930's was the radio and race announcers provided the drama. It was a window into another world from the dreary lives of the depression.
Cast Offs and a Misfit Horse
Toby McGuire plays the "chip on his shoulder" jockey (Red Pollard), picked out of oblivion, to ride a horse who is the last hope of Charles Howard, a down on his luck car dealer who just buried his only son. Seabiscuit was too small, to be a winner, he had a limp, but trainer Tom Smith sees something in him; courage, spirit, and determination.
Together this team of castoffs and misfits beat all odds and win races, not only win, but win with a passion that drives a nation and brings the common man to their feet to cheer the little horse in the biggest race of his life. A title race against Triple Crown Winner War Admiral.
I'm not going to spoil the rest of the movie. Buy it, watch it and I dare you not to get chills and feel a little bit better about people and the world.

Other Great Horse Movies
I was a typical horse crazy teenage girl and not only read every horse book I could get a hold of growing up, but watched every horse movie. Today as an adult I still love a great horse movie. These three movies are probably my favorite, but all I have to do is get out another one, like Horse Whisperer and my mind changes.
